Horn recommendation

None of the 300 hz multicells were designed or marketed for the size of rooms we have in our homes. We can disagree on personal preferences, but not that one horn is for long-throw and the others not.

Any of the 300 hz multicells will dwarf your LaScala bins.... The 311-60 is better suited size-wise to that cab, and does perform admirably well with the Altec phenolic midrange drivers. They will do your 400hz. with ease. Plus, they would be much simpler to ship to the "Land of Oz". Enjoy!

Isn't it so hard to make a decision?
Yes, I had a look at the size of these things (1003's) & they are quite large, but that isn't really a problem in my room. The issue is, as you say, with getting them here. One E Bay seller wants $1600 for shipping! Outrageous - half as much again as what the horns are worth.
I looked at the 311-90 & the 311-60 from the Altec Pro web page & they look much more suitable.

Kind of hard to recommend a specific horn when you don't define the app..........

Well, 'beamy' is relative in that if it fits the needs of the app it's just right, but in a typical HIFI app 60x60 works well as does 40-80 to 90. For longer listening distances then, narrower is better, ergo wider is better for sitting closer in smaller rooms or for many HT apps.

My application is for home hi-fi music listening. My room is 9m x 6m x 2.7m high. I usually sit about 6 m from the speakers with the speakers placed on the 6m wall.
After hearing further comments I felt that the 1003's may be too large for this size room, what I mean is that I might not get the best from them in a room this size, plus there is the huge shipping cost involved. I like the look of the 311's in terms of overall size & they will obviously handle the 400 Hz crossover with ease.

No, these are for 2 inch compression drivers. Made by Volti Audio. Thought they may be able to make some for 1.4" throat drivers?

OK, assuming the speakers are ~backed up against the wall, then a ~4.076 m listening distance may prove a little smoother overall. Speakers then would be about this far apart and ideally would be offset along the wall to average out any sidewall eigenmodes (standing waves), so ideally the listening 'sweet spot' would shift also.

Anyway, lacking sufficient geometry skills to quickly calculate desirable horn patterns, I'll leave you to either calculate them or do as I do and make a scale drawing of the room and with compass and straightedge, find what speaker toe-in and arc patterns cover/overlap the listening position without any first reflections in front of the listening position and let this guide your selection rather than size, long/short throw, etc..
